This kit pairs Home Assistant Green with Connect ZBT-2. Green runs Home Assistant, bringing supported devices and automations into one place. ZBT-2 adds the wireless connection for compatible Zigbee 3.0 devices, or you can set it up in Thread mode for Matter-over-Thread devices.

Choose the mode for your devices

Zigbee: Choose this mode for compatible Zigbee lights, sensors, switches and other devices.
Thread: Choose this mode to use ZBT-2 as part of your Home Assistant Thread border router setup for Matter-over-Thread devices.

Each ZBT-2 runs Zigbee or Thread, one at a time. If you want both at once, we can help you choose an extra dedicated radio or a suitable Thread border router. Matter also works over Wi-Fi and Ethernet; those devices do not need a Thread radio.

How to get started

Connect Green to your router with the included Ethernet cable and plug in its power supply.
Connect the adapter to Green and follow the Home Assistant setup guide.
Add your devices and build your first automation. Pairing steps depend on the devices you own.

Home Assistant OS comes installed on Green. You complete the initial setup and connect your devices. Local devices and automations can keep working if your internet goes down; cloud-dependent devices still need an internet connection.

No subscription is required to use Home Assistant. Optional Home Assistant Cloud makes remote access and voice assistant setup easier.

What is included in the Green + ZBT-2 starter kit?

The kit includes Home Assistant Green, an Ethernet cable, a 12V DC power supply with plug adapters, the Quick Start Guide and warranty/safety information, plus one Connect ZBT-2 adapter. Configure ZBT-2 for Zigbee or Thread, one protocol at a time.

Can one Connect ZBT-2 run Zigbee and Thread at the same time?

Each Connect ZBT-2 runs Zigbee or Thread, one at a time. Choose its mode during setup. To use both networks at once, use a separate dedicated radio or a suitable Thread border router for the other network.

Do all Matter devices need a Connect ZBT-2?

Matter devices can communicate over Wi-Fi, Ethernet or Thread. Matter-over-Wi-Fi and Ethernet devices do not need a Thread radio. Matter-over-Thread devices need a compatible Thread border router; a ZBT-2 configured for Thread can be used as part of that Home Assistant setup.

What's the difference between the Connect ZBT-2 and Connect ZWA-2?

Choose ZBT-2 for Zigbee 3.0 or Thread. Each adapter runs one of those protocols at a time. Choose ZWA-2 for compatible North American Z-Wave and Z-Wave Long Range devices. The kit with both adapters combines Z-Wave with your choice of Zigbee or Thread. For Zigbee and Thread at the same time, contact us for help choosing an additional dedicated radio or a suitable Thread border router.

Does Home Assistant Green have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth built in?

Green connects to your router by Ethernet for a reliable network connection. It can then control compatible Wi-Fi devices through your router. For direct Zigbee or Thread connectivity, choose the Green + ZBT-2 kit; for Z-Wave, choose Green + ZWA-2. Green has no built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth radio.

Do I need to pay for a subscription?

No subscription is required. Home Assistant is free, open-source software and runs entirely on your local network. There's an optional paid service called Home Assistant Cloud (by Nabu Casa) that makes remote access and voice assistant integration easier to set up, but it's not required. You can configure remote access yourself for free.

Do I need any technical experience to set it up?

No. Connect the Ethernet cable to your router, plug in the power supply, and the hub boots up on its own. It automatically downloads the latest version of Home Assistant. From there, open a browser or the Home Assistant app on your phone and follow the on-screen setup. It will detect compatible smart devices on your network during this process.
