This bundle combines Home Assistant Green with Connect ZWA-2 and Connect ZBT-2. It is a useful starting point if you have devices on different wireless networks or want more options as your smart home grows.

What each part does

  • Home Assistant Green: Runs Home Assistant and brings supported devices and automations together.
  • Connect ZWA-2: Connects compatible North American Z-Wave and Z-Wave Long Range devices.
  • Connect ZBT-2: Connects compatible Zigbee 3.0 devices, or works in Thread mode as part of your Home Assistant Thread border router setup for Matter-over-Thread devices.

This kit gives you Z-Wave plus your choice of Zigbee or Thread. Each ZBT-2 runs Zigbee or Thread, one at a time. If you want both at once, we can help you choose an extra dedicated radio or a suitable Thread border router.

Matter devices can use Wi-Fi, Ethernet or Thread. Only Matter devices that use Thread need a Thread border router. Compatibility depends on the exact device model and its Home Assistant integration.

How to get started

  1. Connect Green to your router with the included Ethernet cable and plug in its power supply.
  2. Connect both adapters to Green and follow the Home Assistant setup guide.
  3. Add your devices and build your first automation. Pairing steps depend on the devices you own.

Home Assistant OS comes installed on Green. You complete the initial setup and connect your devices. Local devices and automations can keep working if your internet goes down; cloud-dependent devices still need an internet connection.

No subscription is required to use Home Assistant. Optional Home Assistant Cloud makes remote access and voice assistant setup easier.

What is included in the kit with both adapters?

The kit includes Home Assistant Green with its Ethernet cable, power supply and setup information, plus one Connect ZBT-2 and one Connect ZWA-2. ZWA-2 handles Z-Wave while ZBT-2 handles your choice of Zigbee or Thread.

Can I use Connect ZBT-2 and Connect ZWA-2 together?

Yes. They serve different networks and can be used together with Home Assistant Green. ZWA-2 manages Z-Wave, and ZBT-2 manages either Zigbee or Thread. The kit with both adapters still uses one ZBT-2 for one protocol at a time.

Can one Connect ZBT-2 run Zigbee and Thread at the same time?

Each Connect ZBT-2 runs Zigbee or Thread, one at a time. Choose its mode during setup. To use both networks at once, use a separate dedicated radio or a suitable Thread border router for the other network.

Which Z-Wave devices work with this Connect ZWA-2?

Use the North American Z-Wave region for compatible devices in Canada. The adapter and devices must use the same regional frequencies. Z-Wave Long Range also requires compatible Long Range devices.

Do all Matter devices need a Connect ZBT-2?

Matter devices can communicate over Wi-Fi, Ethernet or Thread. Matter-over-Wi-Fi and Ethernet devices do not need a Thread radio. Matter-over-Thread devices need a compatible Thread border router; a ZBT-2 configured for Thread can be used as part of that Home Assistant setup.

Does Home Assistant Green have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth built in?

Green connects to your router by Ethernet for a reliable network connection. It can then control compatible Wi-Fi devices through your router. For direct Zigbee or Thread connectivity, choose the Green + ZBT-2 kit; for Z-Wave, choose Green + ZWA-2. Green has no built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth radio.

Do I need to pay for a subscription?

No subscription is required. Home Assistant is free, open-source software and runs entirely on your local network. There's an optional paid service called Home Assistant Cloud (by Nabu Casa) that makes remote access and voice assistant integration easier to set up, but it's not required. You can configure remote access yourself for free.

Do I need any technical experience to set it up?

No. Connect the Ethernet cable to your router, plug in the power supply, and the hub boots up on its own. It automatically downloads the latest version of Home Assistant. From there, open a browser or the Home Assistant app on your phone and follow the on-screen setup. It will detect compatible smart devices on your network during this process.
