Z-Wave Smart Home
Products for controlling Z-Wave devices. Z-Wave is the standard protocol for smart locks and security sensors.
Why Z-Wave for Security
Yale, Schlage, and Kwikset use Z-Wave for their smart deadbolts. Z-Wave runs on 908 MHz (not 2.4 GHz like WiFi and Zigbee), so fewer interference problems. Better wall penetration.
Z-Wave Plus uses strong encryption. Each powered device extends the mesh network. The more devices you add, the stronger the signal gets.
What Works
Smart locks: Yale Assure, Schlage Encode, Kwikset SmartCode. Sensors: motion, door/window, leak, temperature. In-wall switches and dimmers. Thermostats. Garage door controllers.
How to Get Started
You need Home Assistant Green (the hub) plus the ZWA-2 adapter. The Z-Wave Bundle includes both and saves you money.
Plug the adapter into Green's USB port. Home Assistant detects it automatically. Start pairing Z-Wave devices. Works with devices you already own.
